Hi you guys! I just had a baby on August 4th and I'm curious what the best nipples are for newborn babies? I am not breastfeeding and I've been using the standard nipples that come with the bottles but the milk seems to be coming out too fast and my baby just cant keep up. Any suggestions??

  1. The standard teats that come with the bottles are usually fast flow for babies over 6 months.

You can buy newborn ones separately. My daughter didn't like the standard shape and prefers 'nuk' teats. These are also recommended for reducing colic.

Whatever shape you use, make sure they are slow flow for newborns.

  2. you need to get newborn t***s. they only have one tiny little hole so the milk flow is very slow.

Ask at the pharmasy or whereever you buy you bottles.

  3. my first i used Dr. browns they are great my second would only take the playtex nurser with the brown nips. just keep trying you will find the one that works the best for your little one. and congrats on the new baby.

  4. I swear by Dr Brown bottles as they have Vari flow teats on them so the milk will only come out as fast as your baby wants it to. Or find some Vari flow teats that will fit your bottle.

  5. Every baby prefers a different one... but definitely make sure you're using stage 1. Just keep trying different ones until you find the one that works. And congrats!

  6. If you still have the box or info leaflet check it to see what type of teat came with the bottle. Alternatively the base of the teat should have a little number on it. Either 1, 2 or 3. Some bottles come with stage 2 teats as standard.

Stage 1 is for 0+ mths and only has 1 small hole in the teat.

As you're baby gets older and finds it easier to suck from the bottle and swallow the milk you can buy different teats with a faster flow.

  7. I used Dr. Brown's bottles and they make a preemie nipple that flows a bit slower than level one.  If you're using a different brand the Dr. Brown's might still fit, or look online to see if your brand offers a preemie or slower flow nipple.  I found buying online helpful in the early days since it seems impossible to leave the house with a little one, and stores usually don't carry a manufacturer's full line of products anyway.  Good luck!

  8. I actually use the gerber brown nipples...the only ones my baby would take...they are kinda slow but she still uses them and is 7 months old.

  9. My son loves the 'Mam Anti-colic Bottle'...

I breastfeed, but when I pump it's the bottle he likes best. The nipple is flat and very soft.

Babies are different though, so you'll probably have to experiment with several to find the right one...

  10. "I am not breastfeeding"

It is not too late to change your mind about that.

  11. I found that the soothie nipples worked really well for my third baby. Plus they also make a soothing pacifier shaped like the bottle nipples making it easier for baby to take a pacifier too.

The nipples didn't make the formula flow to fast and the baby didn't seem to be as gassy as my first two who used other bottles.
