I converted 1 week ago today. I am wondering if I can forgo Ramadan this year? I have done two days and it was amazing, really really spiritual for me. But I feel like being a new Muslim, I am learning so much and it is so that I have a migrane right now and am not sleeping because I feel like im going to be sick. Its not just to fasting, I am learning so much about my new faith that I feel overwhelmed.

Is it ok if I dont fast, but spend this month learning my faith, reading Quran?

Thank you so much :)

  6. Sister, fasting in the month of Ramadan is compulsory as praying 5 times a day. If you have made your SHAHADA and confirm from your hearth that you are Muslim You must fast. There are certain cases that you may not fast.

    1. If you are ill you shoul break your fasting, but you must make up later for those days you have not fast.

    2. If you are in journey or travel you can break your fast and you will make up those days later.

    3. If you are under 15 yrs you should not fast at all unless you want to practice Ramadan.

for further knowledge of Ramadan and how to fast and when not to fast please contact your local Mosque

Please read below verse of Quran from Sura Al Bakhara.

Holy Quran meaning of the translation 2:185

Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an as a guide to mankind also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong).  So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting but if anyone is ill or on a journey the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later.  Allah intends every facility for you He does not want to put you to difficulties.  (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.

  7. No one say it is a must to fast during Ramadan. It depends on your health and age.

  8. fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam.you have to fast unless you are sick.

  9. yea you can do that, but you shouldnt be asking the yahoo community for permission for that, you should ask Allah and Allah will surely understand and grant you what you want. You should pick out an arabic name for yourself.

  10. well you are over 12 which is the age u have to fast after. Also it is the pillar of Islam, it's what makes us Muslim. Unless ur doctor says not to fast and/or ur migraine is sooo bad that u have to eat then don't fast. but if it's slight and can be gone after a Tylenol then fast.

edit abu aziza said it much better.

  11. Get Sick(it is excused for sick people to eat).Do A hard Job.Pretend u r sick

  12. You should only fast if you can...if its going to be too tough health or other wise then don't do it.

For example I am a muslim but because of my ROTC commitment I cannot fast because I am expected to do rigorous PT excersises and you should never do that while fasting.

  13. Salam for you.Congratulate to you as a new muslimYou are sinless just like a new born baby. All of your sins which  were made before being muslim will be forgiven by Allah but all of your good doings will be recognized. If you have no problem on your fasting,I think you are better to cintinue your fasting.Besides that at night you can continue to learn and understand what is Islam and its holy book Qur'an and also its hadits. You can learn it step by step You must take rest .Do not learn so much so you will get sick, because you have not enough sleeping and eating./Reading Qur'an is not so urgent because it is sunnah but fasting during ramadan is mandatory for muslims in making strong faith and taqwa (adherance or compliance to Allah)

  14. Fasting is a RIGHTEOUS act, just as other righteous acts e.g. salat, charity, obligatory charity, Pilgrimage, etc.

The act is Solely for God. There are NO wide range of rules related to fasting. It is relatively simple. Just 3 or 4 basic rules e.g.

1-  Starts from the time of Fajr and ends with the sunset.

2-  No sexual activity while fasting.

3-  Trying to abstain from bad behavior and sins.

There is perhaps nothing besides these simple rules. And remember it is ONLY for God. Therefore its recompense is simply tremendous. Because for this time you are dedicated to God Alone.

Also, you can break your fast if:

1-  It gets difficult for you.

2-  No need to fast, if you are sick or can fall sick due to fasting. God does not wish hardship for us.

3-  While on journey (because you may be in hardship and fasting may be difficult for you).

4-  If you break the fast, or are unable to fast due to any circumstances, you may compensate by fasting in OTHER days (after Ramadan, as per your choice)  OR  you for each fast, you may atone by feeding one needy person with the food (or equivalent amount) that you yourself consume.

    --------------------

These are perhaps the most basic and the ONLY rules for fasting. There are no other rules besides them.

  15. listen sister you should keep on fasting because if you dont you will feel really bad the rest of the year  for braking the fast and you never know if your going to make it till next ramadan,so if i was you i wouldnt risk it

  16. Talk to an Imam as he will best advise you.  Most likely they will advise you to forgo the fasting.  Might even scold you for taking on too much in such a short period of time :p

Nah, kidding, but do talk to an Imam and they'll advice you properly Inshallah.

    Welcome to Islam sister.

  17. i think it is ok but the days that u did not fasting in fast it after ramadan
