New ODI rules to be implemented in India-England series – Cricket News Update
The International Cricket Council's (ICC) Executive Board has approved the implementation of new rules, which were put into effect from October 1, 2011, in the upcoming India-England series, which is scheduled to begin on October 14, in Hyderabad.
The amendments were initially put forward by ICC's Cricket Committee in London, this year, which were then approved by the Executive Board.
Based on the new rules, the Board recently announced that there will be two balls instead of one, which will be used in each innings of the match. It was also confirmed that these amendments will only be applicable under the One Day International (ODI) format.
As for field restrictions, it was also stated that power plays will still constitute 20 overs per innings, with variations throughout.
As stated in ICC’s release, the cricket governors revealed that, “this restriction will not apply for reduced innings of scheduled duration of less than 40 overs”.
It was also said that a runner for an injured batsman will not be permitted under any format, unless nine wickets are down. In a situation where the batsman in unable to run, he will have the option to declare himself being retire hurt and can return to
bat at a later stage if required.
“Calculation of the period for which an injured or ill player who has been absent from the field shall not be permitted to bowl or bat i.e. penalty time (Tests, ODIs and T20Is),” the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 clarified.
As for the upcoming series, with new rules already taking effect, the Indian hosts will have a major chance to make use of the amendments in their favour as they will be looking for revenge against the English tourists after suffering a complete whitewash
on their home-turf.
The series kicks off on October 14, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792, as both the sides set out to lock horns in the opening ODI bout, followed by four limited over matches, and then the eventual one-off Twenty20 (T20), on October 29.
