New Orleans Hornets Centre Chris Kaman to be traded soon - NBA Update
New Orleans Hornets are having a disappointing season so far with a 4-17 record, and one of the reason behind is that after the departure of Chris Paul, they don’t have any super stars in their team.
Their roster however is not that bad, but they still need some modifications in it.
And it looks like they have decided it’s time to make a move.
Centre Chris Kaman, who ended up in the Hornets after the blockbuster deal that sent Chris Paul to Los Angeles Clippers on December 14 last year is expected to be traded soon in order to increase game time for the young players.
Kaman, the German star, who was not played in the Hornets game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night, has been informed of the franchise’s intentions by General Manager Dell Demps.
"We've informed Chris that we are looking into possible trades and he was understanding about the situation," Hornets GM Dell Demps said. "We're working together on this. Chris has been the ultimate professional since he joined us. In no way is this a disciplinary action. We had discussions about extending his current contract when he first came to the Hornets, but the organization decided to go in a different direction."
Hornets coach, Monty Williams, shedding light on this also added.
"It's just something (where) we want to play our young guys and we certainly don't want to disrespect Chris at all”
The 29 year old Kaman has represented Hornets in 18 games so far and unfortunately failed to make an impact, averaging only 9.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, which is a lot lesser than his career average.
Hornets had planned to trade him soon after the December deal, but they instead opted to wait until the March 15th deadline, so now as soon as they find a trade home for Kaman, he will be shelved.
The move is a justified one because waiving him off will give time for other emerging players in the team to make an impact. Gustavo Ayon proved in the game against Thunder, that if he is given more time, he can be a productive.
There are others like Ayon in the team as well that can use the extra playing time, which will be created with Kaman’s departure. The move is also expected to create some cap space for the franchise.
Kaman, the oldest player in the Hornets and in the last year of his contract is making approximately $14 million this year. He is a decent player and still has a lot of basketball left in him. He surely would be a handful for whichever team he heads out to.
