New Orleans Hornets coach Monty Williams averse to using injuries as excuse – NBA Update
New Orleans Hornets are on a downhill journey nesting at the bottom of Western Conference with just 13 wins and 40 losses. Their last thread of hope Eric Gordon shredded with his season threatening knee injury.
Gordon, with scoring chops and elite potential, was supposed to be the key component of the Hornets side, but he went down with an injured knee after just 2 games in this season. He will be undergoing an arthroscopic knee surgery that will keep him off the
court for the rest season.
Despite the fact Hornets acquainted with irony on regular basis they didn’t give up on the good fight and their coach Monty Williams expects nothing less as he brushed aside the injury excuses.
“If you have guys who think these games don’t mean anything, those are not the guys we want going forward,’’ Williams said. “I’ve addressed it. It’s nothing new to our team. Trust me, we’ve seen it, and we’ve seen it here. I’m not going to single guys out,
but I know what I’m looking at. I’ve been in the league long enough.’’
The above mentioned quote is clearly directed towards forward Carl Landry who has been sidelined due to a sprained ankle. For Monty the gravity of the injury is not dire and he maintains that the forward should have played especially when the team needs
him the most.
In another interview before Phoenix Suns game last Sunday when he was asked about the status of Carl he came up with ambivalent statement as he praised Jason Smith and Al-Farouq Aminu to play with injuries but sounded baffled about Carl.
“It’s one of those situations that if I say too much right now, I could be sharp with my words.”
Hornets finished 7th in the Western Conference last year with 46 wins and 36 loses, it was the last year of Paul and 1st year of William. Due to Williams’ brilliance, shorthanded New Orleans achieved such remarkable results without
their injured forward David West.
He is all pepped up to rebuild the team and has no room for the player who are giving up already.
“If you have guys who think these games don’t mean anything, those are not the guys we want going forward”.
Things can change dramatically post season as they will be introducing young talent in the team and with cheesy lottery picks and a highly enthusiastic coach may be Hornets will rise once again.
