Eric Gordon is on his way back from injury; but according to the vibes emerging out of the New Orleans camp, he will have limited participation in training camp as a precaution.
Anthony Davis’s arrival in the NBA is being billed as the start of a new era for the New Orleans Hornets. Yesterday, the young rookie vowed that he is as ready to make his debut as he can be. He was talking about his individual
efforts only.
Davis would have liked to get in as much training done with his full team in order to get a better sense of chemistry, but will have to wait until Eric Gordon gets fully fit from a knee injury which caused him to miss out most
of last season. Taking that into consideration, the Big Easy franchise has decided to limit Gordon’s participation in the training camp, but the player is confident that a slow build up will not be detrimental to him and the team;
'It's going to be a slow process right now and I'm just ready to build it back up to where I can be ready to play before the season starts,'' Gordon said.
Gordon was re-signed over the summer on a four year contract, $58 million contract and has been taking part in workouts voluntarily. Recurring pain in his knees though has led the Hornets to take a cautious approach.
Gordon is looked at as the man who will lead franchise in the next few years, before the mantle can be passed on to Davis. His fitness can have a direct effect on their aspirations for the coming season – something coach, Monty
Williams clearly pointed out.
''He's a big part of what we do and I'm glad we resigned him,''
The Hornets have assembled a more than decent roster for the coming season. Davis is tipped by many as the next big thing in the league, and then there is a rookie by the name of Austin Rivers, who can play both guard positions,
much like Gordon. Another major coup which the Hornets managed to pull off this off season was the acquisition of sharp shooter Ryan Anderson from the Orlando Magic. At present, they have most of their bases covered and all need is some early momentum and
right direction.
