New Orleans Hornets defeat the Charlotte Bobcats 75-67; Extend the winning streak to 4 - NBA Recap
On Monday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena, Charlotte, NC, the visiting New Orleans Hornets defeated the Charlotte Bobcats 75-67.
This loss for the Bobcats sets a new franchise record for 17 consecutive losses making it 19 losses in 20 games. After this loss, Charlotte have now fallen to 7-53, the worst record in the NBA. While on the other hand, Hornets
who are 19-42 have now won their fourth consecutive game.
Greivis Vasquez led the scoring for the Hornets with 20 points. Marco Belinelli contributed 13 while Carl Landry came off the bench to notch up a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds on the night. Hornets shot the ball
33.8% from the field.
Gerald Henderson had a game high of 27 points for the Bobcats. Kemba Walker played well for his 14 while the rest of the team combined together 26 points in the game, with none of them getting more than 7 points individually.
Charlotte who came into the game with the league’s lowest field goal percentage of 41.8% had another poor shooting night as they shot the ball 30.3%, a season low even for the Bobcats.
It was poor performance by both teams regarding the shooting percentages as they combined together to shoot 49-153 from the field, connecting on a low number of 32% of their attempts on the basket.
Both teams committed high number of turnovers on the night, 12-each. However New Orleans got the better of the Bobcats from inside the key as they outscored them 34-24, in the paint.
In the first quarter, the scores remained close as both teams were finding it hard to get their shooting rhythm. The scores remained close for most part of the period as Hornets led 14-12 with 3:29 remaining. The teams combined
to attempt 9 three pointers in the first period with only Walker connecting on one, which gave the Bobcats a 1 point lead to end the quarter.
The poor shooting for both teams continued in the second quarter. However by the end of the half, the Bobcats were able to get ahead by 4 points, 39-35.
In the third quarter, the shooting got even worse for both teams as they combined to score only 20 points, with the Hornets having 12 of those, in the period while shooting 6 of 40 from the field. By the end of third period the
scores were all square at 47 - each.
At the start of the final period, Hornets were able to go on an 8-2 run to open up a 6 point advantage with just a tad above 10 minutes remaining till the final buzzer. However with just a minute remaining the lead was cut down
to 2 points. The Hornets scored 9 points in the final minute, with most of them coming from the free throw line while only allowing to the Bobcats to score only 3 to take this one by a margin of 8.
