New Orleans Hornets eyeing Ryan Anderson as they engage in sign and trade talks with Orlando Magic – NBA News
The New Orleans Hornets have seen a huge turnaround in fortunes ever since the club was sold to new owner Tom Benson.
The Hornets finished the last season in winning fashion to create excitement among the fans for the future and then won the 1st pick for the NBA Draft at the Draft lottery. They chose Anthony Davis with their pick and
are all set to match an offer to guard Eric Gordon by the Phoenix Suns.
Now, in an unexpected and unanticipated move, the Hornets are said to be close to reaching an agreement with the Orlando Magic to recruit Ryan Anderson. The Orlando Sentinel has reported that the Magic are in talks with the Hornets
for a reported sign and trade deal involving Anderson.
Anderson is a restricted free agent this year and was expected to be retained by the Magic after an impressive year with them last season where he averaged 10.6 points and 5.5 points last year while playing 22.1 minutes a game
and was named as the Most Improved Player of the season.
The Hornets are looking to pair him with # 1 draft pick Anthony Davis, which could make for a phenomenal front court combination. They are leaving no stone unturned in an attempt to build a roster that can qualify for the playoffs
next season. Their interest in Anderson stems from his shooting skills, as he averages 43% from the field and 39% from the distance. Although he cannot make plays on his own and needs a good playmaker to feed him, but if open, can punish the opponents with
his shooting.
The possible trade is still early news and different reports are still coming out regarding the deal. Yahoo Sports is reporting that the sign and trade deal will be for 4 years worth $36 million. CBSSports.com is adding that the
Hornets will be sending Gustavo Ayon to Orlando in exchange. Whatever the final shape is, it will strengthen the Hornets roster for next season.
The Hornets have made all their efforts to assemble a star studded cast for next season as they look to take advantage of the # 1 pick they landed at this year’s draft. With Gordon already in the line up, the addition of Anderson
will make for a spectacular roster.
