New Orleans Hornets inclined to match the Phoenix Suns offer for Eric Gordon – NBA Report
Eric Gordon has been very excited about the opportunity to play for the Phoenix Suns after the Desert city franchise offered him a max deal worth $58 million for four years.
The New Orleans Hornets has been very vocal about how Suns have a better vision for future and the prospect of becoming a franchise player for the Suns after the departure of Steve Nash is certainly intriguing for the talented
combo guard.
With Nash gone, the Suns are looking towards Gordon to become the next big thing in Phoenix basketball and have certainly put their money in the right place.
However, the glitch in the whole situation is that Gordon is a restricted free agent and the Hornets have the right to match any offer he receives. Multiple sources have confirmed including David Aldridge of NBA.com that the Hornets
intend to match the offer of the Suns to retain Gordon.
Gordon went as far as issuing a statement saying that he would love to play for the Suns in a bid to get the message across to the management at the Hornets. However, this year is too critical for the Big Easy franchise and they
won’t be willing to let their star player move out.
The Hornets have a new owner in Tom Benson, a number 1 draft pick this year in Anthony Davis and a talented point guard in Austin Rivers coming their way. Their lineup will not be complete without Eric Gordon. Ever since the Hornets
landed the number 1 draft pick at the NBA Draft Lottery earlier this year and it became evident that they would pick Anthony Davis as their number 1 pick, the Hornets team management stressed on the fact that the new team was going to be built Gordon, not
Davis.
He is an important piece of the puzzle for the Hornets and they are counting on him to take them to the next level in the NBA, now that he has enough talent around him. It was a good attempt by the Suns as they offered him a lucrative
contract, but it may not be enough to fend off the Hornets.
