New Orleans Hornets promise to return fans money if NBA lockout affects the games next season
The National Basketball Association is experiencing work stoppage for the second time in the history. The lockout was forced on 1st of July this time with the expiration of the old Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
With the situation that is prevailing in the league at the moment, it’s difficult to say that whether the 2011-2012 season will take place on time. These reservations have kept many fans apprehensive especially the ones who hold
or planning to buy the season tickets.
While many fans are asking for an option with their teams in order to save their wealth, the New Orleans Hornets have promised that they will not only return the money if the lockout wipes out the games in the next season, the
fans will also receive interest on their spending.
President of New Orleans Hornets Hugh Weber said, "It is our goal to continue to reward season ticketholders for their dedication and loyalty to the team and our community,"
The Hornets which is currently owned by NBA faced the lockout at the most inopportune time when the league was taking steps to drive up the ticket sales and attract the new owners in the city.
Despite of the work stoppage, the franchise is promoting the sales of the season ticket and encouraging the fans to step up to the call by ensuring the refunds and interest on top of it.
The New Orleans native Jac Sperling who is appointed as the Hornets’ governor stated that the steps are taken to provide hope and confidence to the prospective buyers in the city and make it evident that an NBA franchise can still
stay afloat in unfortunate circumstances if not thrive.
The New Orleans Hornets had sold 8424 tickets till the Wednesday afternoon for the 2011-2012 season and moving towards their goal of 10,000 season tickets which is financially considered as a healthy figure.
The franchise has offered various options on the interest rates for the fans on their refunded wealth. The buyers who will keep their money in the Hornets accounts for a long-term period will be entitled to receive significantly
higher rates. Another option will give 1 percent on tickets on top of the reimbursement for any cancelled game.
The NBA Lockout has hampered every franchise from finalizing their future actions in which the sale of the season tickets is the most concerning issue. The Hornets have taken a chance to increase their earnings from the sale by
promising the refund with interests and now they will be hoping that the league gets back to the business at the earliest.
