New Orleans Hornets spring a surprise by winning the draft lottery – NBA Update
The New Orleans Hornets finally had a twist of luck in their favour as they won the Draft Lottery on Wednesday night.
This would come as great news to the team and the community as now they would be welcoming the team`s new owner with a new star player to represent their city.
Anthony Davis is most likely to be the number one pick this year and he is the same man who led the Kentucky Wildcats to a National Championship in the Big Easy back in April.
The Hornets would be very happy on getting the number one pick after a lacklustre season in which they had to trade their star player Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers and the franchise was sold to Tom Benson by the NBA.
Benson is also the owner of the New Orleans Saints (Football team) and was very happy for receiving the number 1 draft pick. He labelled it as just the first step towards rebuilding the team.
"Just a first step for us to winning it all," – Benson
The joy was too much to behold for the Hornet General Manager, Dell Demps who was seen pumping his fist after finding out that his team has won the lottery.
"When our combination came up, it was an exciting feeling, I got an incredible rush. ... We knew what the odds were. We hoped for the best. It was nothing we could control. We're just happy. Obviously, we're very excited," Demps
said. "This is a great day for the city of New Orleans, our fans. ... This is the start of a new beginning."
It was however a heartbreak for the Charlotte Bobcats who after having the worst record in the league had the best chances of winning the lottery. However with the Hornets moving up the ladder, the Bobcats will now take the second
pick, who is most likely to be Davis`s Kentucky team mate, Michael Kidd- Gilchrist.
The number 3rd pick of the draft will go to the Washington Wizards and the Cleveland Cavaliers will get the number 4 pick while the Sacramento Kings will get the number 5th pick in the draft scheduled to take
place on June 28.
Brooklyn Nets got the number 6th spot in the lottery but will now have to give up their pick to the Portland Trail Blazers as the precondition for the trade involving Gerald Wallace.
New Orleans Hornets who move up from the number 4 spot to secure the number 1 draft pick in the lottery will also have the 10th pick in this year`s draft and will look to get the best out of these picks in order to rebuild
their team.
