New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees "working on a new long term deal" - NFL News
New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees is unhappy with his contract situation but did not go far enough to threaten holding out from player workouts which will start on Monday.
Brees’ last contract expired at the end of the season and the quarterback has been negotiating with the franchise for months as both look to reach a new long term deal.
The quarterback spoke to the media as he promoted his charity golf tournament and most questions revolved around his contract situation and whether or not he will hold out.
Brees did his best at deflecting the questions and said.
"What I can say in regards to my contract is that we're continuing to work hard on a long-term deal, and that's really all I can say about it,"
When probed further by reporters for comment, the quarterback just gave his standard reply.
"We're continuing to work on a long-term deal."
The Saints were earlier reported to have offered Brees a new contract on par with those given to New England Patriots, quarterback, Tom Brady and Denver Broncos, quarterback, Peyton Manning.
Brees though has refused all offers as both parties remain far apart in their valuations of a new deal.
The quarterback has been the face of a resurgent New Orleans Saints ever since he arrived to the Big Easy in 2006.
Brees has performed wonderfully during his time with the Saints and also led the franchise to its one and only Super Bowl Championship in 2009.
The quarterback broke multiple records in 2011-12 to cement his name as one of the best signal callers to grace the league.
Brees broke Dan Marino’s single season passing yards record as he passed for 5,476 yards in 2011-12. That season he also threw more touchdown passes than any other quarterback in the league with 46.
The Saints will do well to end the contract saga between them and their best player soon and with the problems they continue to face due to the bounty scandal another controversy is not what the Saints would want at this time.
Brees has been franchise tagged by the Saints and both parties have till July 15 to work out a new deal.
