New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton plays Golf and plans to coach son's team during suspension
New Orleans Saints coach, Sean Payton has a lot of free time on his hands this year as he starts his one year suspension from the pro-game.
Payton is banned from contacting with anyone in the New Orleans Saints after being suspended by National Football League (NFL) commissioner, Roger Goodell for his involvement in the Saints infamous bounty scandal.
The head coach was accused of lying to league investigators about the existence of the program and also did nothing to stop it.
Now with a whole year away from the game, Payton is keeping positive and plans to help coach his son Connor Payton’s football team.
Speaking to reporters after playing a round of golf at the Zurich Classic pro-am with professional Ryan Palmer, Payton said.
"One of the things I'm looking forward to doing this fall is helping coach my son's football team and doing a few things that you normally wouldn't be able to do (while coaching in the NFL),"
That is one way to keep himself busy.
Adding further he said.
“I look forward to cutting the oranges, hauling the Gatorade and watching my son play every game -- and being a part of calling plays for his offense and doing some things like that that really get me excited and I know get him excited."
Payton was surrounded by supportive fans during the tournament and signed autographs.
The head coach said that he felt humbled by the support he receives from the Saints fans and called them the greatest fans in sports.
"It's humbling. It's overwhelming. We've got the greatest fans in sport. ... There's that bond that's been uniquely formed.”
Payton also commented on the newest controversy to embroil the Saints as an
ESPN report citing sources claimed that general manager, Mickey Loomis spied on opposition coaches from his seat during home games from 2002-04.
The coach though called all these allegations ridiculous and said that he knows Loomis enough personally to know anything like that would never have occurred.
The Saints were revealed to have run a pay-for-injury program for three seasons in their defensive unit including their 2009 Super Bowl winning game.
With Payton suspended, assistant coach, Joe Vitt has taken over head coaching responsibilities for the entirety of the 2012-13 season.
