New Orleans Saints general manager does not think QB Drew Brees is "great" - NFL News
New Orleans Saints were nowhere near the playoffs let alone the Super Bowl before 2006 the year when Hurricane Katrina struck and the franchise brought in their messiah quarterback Drew Brees from San Diego Chargers.
However, New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis does not want to accept Brees’ achievements with the franchise as talks over a new contract continue to be bogged down by disagreements over wages.
Loomis, according to Yahoo! Sports told reporters during the National Football League (NFL) Scouting Combine that he believes Drew Brees to be a “very good” quarterback but not a “great” one.
It seems the Saints want to pay Brees “very good quarterback” wages while refusing his demands to be paid on par with great quarterbacks such as Indianapolis Colts Peyton Manning and New England Patriots Tom Brady.
The Saints quarterback’s achievements though show that Brees is really a great quarterback.
Brees’ contributions to the New Orleans Saints cause have been immense with the highlight being the 2009 Super Bowl Championship, the franchise’s first and only triumph at the biggest stage of them all.
The quarterback has performed exceptionally well since joining New Orleans but this season even went a step above his own high standards.
Brees broke Dan Marino’s three-decade old record for passing yards as he covered a mammoth total of 5,476-yards and also passed for the most touchdowns in the league with 46.
With an awe-inspiring 2011-12 season, Brees was named as the only real contender against Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Year Award.
If no contract can be agreed upon soon before the March 5th deadline, the Saints will look to tag Brees which according to the new Collective Bargaining Arrangement will pay $ 14.4 million.
The Saints need Brees to remain for a long time with the franchise if they want to remain among the NFL’s elites.
New Orleans were among the best teams in the regular season with a 13-3 record and Brees played an instrumental role in that achievement.
The quarterback has made a huge place in the heart of the city since 2006 with off the field charity work and other funding as New Orleans got back on its feet after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
Fans want to see Brees don the Saints jersey for a long time, Brees wants to stay and now the ball is in the court of the franchise to make it happen.
