New Orleans Saints get 28-13 victory over Philadelphia Eagles – NFL Recap
New Orleans Saints are back in business after beating Philadelphia Eagles 28-13 in Week 9 game on Monday, November 05, 2012, at Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Saints (3-5) made an extraordinary comeback after getting a demoralising 14-34 loss against Denver Broncos last week.
Eagles (3-5), on the other hand, continued their downfall from a good start to the season. It was their fourth consecutive loss and head coach Andy Reid is feeling the heat of the moment.
Saints offence was superb as quarterback Drew Brees pumped his way through Eagles defence throughout the game.
Brees completed 21 out of 27 passes for 239 yards and scored two touchdowns. According to the Associated Press, Brees said:
"There are defining moments throughout a season. Big plays, big wins, that kind of bring you together and let you see a vision of what you can be, what you can accomplish. Here we are the midway point. It's gone by fast. This, is the type of momentum we
want going into the second half of the season."
Eagles offence had the other way round as they again failed to produce good plays. Quarterback Michael Vick once again struggled with his performance.
Vick got sacked as many as seven times and finished with 22 of 41 for 272 yards and a touchdown. Talking to the media after the game, Vick said:
"It's very frustrating. These are games that we have the opportunity to win, or get back in the game. At this point, everything has to be dead on. You can't miss, and you almost have to be perfect on every drive."
The offence missed many chances to take the lead which proved costly later on as Saints’ stout defence kept Vick and company from reaching the end zone in the final quarter.
Saints defence gave away season-lowest 13 points in the game. However, the passing defence remained weak as they gave more than 400 yards for eighth game in a row.
Saints started the game on a high as cornerback Patrick Robinson returned an interception for 99 yards and scored a touchdown to finish the first quarter 7-0.
Eagles reduced the deficit early in the second quarter with a 22-yard field goal form kicker Alex Henery.
After that, Saints offence picked up the gas as they scored two back-to-back touchdowns. First, running back Chris Ivory made a 22-yard run to the end zone.
Then Brees threw a one-yard pass to wide receiver Marques Colston for a touchdown to take the score to 21-3 at the end of the first half.
At the start of the second half, Eagles managed to reduce the lead by scoring a touchdown as well as field goal, but Saints came back with a touchdown pass from Brees in the final minutes of the third quarter.
The score line was 28-13 at the start of the final quarter and remained the same till the end, thanks to some strong performance from the Saints’ defence.
