New Orleans Saints look for redemption against Kansas City Chiefs - NFL Preview
The Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints are both winless with a 0-2 record but that will change for one team on Sunday, September 23, 2012 as the two sides clash at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in New Orleans.
Defence has been a problem for both teams but it is more of a surprise with the New Orleans Saints as their new defence run by defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has failed to deliver with the Saints dropping to last in the league for total defence giving
up a massive 461 yards per game.
Spagnuolo’s schemes were easily ripped apart by rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III in Week 1 as the Saints lost to Washington Redskins while in week 2 Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton also had a field day against the Saints.
Both quarterbacks are known for their athleticism and took full advantage of a Saints defence struggling to stop runs.
The Saints have given up an average of 186 yards per game on the rush but Spagnuolo remains confident that the defence will pull itself together soon.
Speaking to the media the former St. Louis Rams head coach said:
"The growing pains will pay off in the end. I believe in our players and our coaches, and I believe in the scheme. And unless something out of the sky falls, I'm not going to change in that regard."
More surprisingly New Orleans offence led by star quarterback Drew Brees also has failed to deliver in both weeks.
Brees who signed a record contract in the offseason after a long stalemate with the franchise has failed to perform as he did in the 2011/12 season and has thrown four interceptions in just the first two games.
The offence meanwhile is not outscoring opponents like the previous year and this is a big question mark over the team.
However, they will be more than confident against Kansas City Chiefs who continue to deliver poor performances.
The Chiefs provide a great opportunity for New Orleans to get their season back on track.
In the first two weeks of the new season Kansas City has been easily brushed aside by the Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills.
The Chiefs have been outscored by a total of 34 points in the first two weeks and provide a great opportunity for the Saints struggling offence to regain their confidence.
With the crowd behind them and a plucky opponent against them the New Orleans Saints should not let such an opportunity pass them by and a win here might just get their season back on track.
If they lose though things will get even tougher and it would seem that the bounty scandal punishments have had a much larger impact than previously thought.
