New Orleans Saints mount a last minute comeback to beat the Cincinnati Bengals
The New Orleans Saints created and held on to a lead against the Cincinnati Bengals well into the fourth quarter as New Orleans held the Bengals at bay for most of the game. Their defence was unable to pull out any opportunities and their offence did not
score a touchdown until almost the end of the 3rd quarter.
New Orleans started the 3rd quarter with a touchdown drive and extended their lead by 14 points. Quarterback Drew Brees did not go for the big plays and held the drive together until running back Chris Ivory finished it off with a 1 yard dash
to the end zone for a touchdown.
The Bengals offensive, which had been unimpressive until this point, answered the drive with a touchdown of its own. Quarterback Carson Palmer put the Bengals in the red zone with a 33 yards pass to wide receiver Chad Ochocinco and threw the 5 yards touchdown
pass to Terrell Owens. The extra point wasn no good.
The Bengals would score again minutes later after intercepting Brees. The interception put Cincinnati on New Orleans 46 yard line. Ochocinco received 29 yards to get the Bengals within striking distance of touchdown. Cedric Benson rushed the final four yards
in two plays for touchdown. With the extra point the Bengals were still one point short of New Orleans 20 points.
The Saints lost that lead in the fourth quarter after Benson rushed for touchdown again. With the scores at 27-25, the Bengals attempted the two point conversion. The attempted was good and the game was tied. Cincinnati finally took the lead with a 47 yard
field goal in the 10th minute of the fourth quarter.
Four minutes were enough for Brees to score again. Chris Ivory rushed 11 yards in two plays and Brees followed it up with a 42 yard pass to Robert Meacham. After the two minute warning the Saints pushed 10 more yards and got 4 more off a penalty on Cincinnati.
Brees threw a 3 yard touchdown pass towards Marques Colston and handed the Bengals their 9th consecutive defeat.
