New Orleans Saints take Wisconsin University WR Nick Toon in fourth round - NFL News
The New Orleans Saints are making the best out of their limited picks in the 2012 drafts to shore up their roster ahead of the new season.
On Saturday, the Saints picked wide receiver, Nick Toon of Wisconsin University in the fourth round of the drafts.
Toon joins the franchise as the 122nd overall pick and will provide quarterback, Drew Brees with another weapon down the field.
The son of former New York Jets wide receiver, Al Toon impressed the Saints coaching staff and will likely become a great addition to the franchise as he follows in his father’s footsteps to play in the National Football League (NFL).
Speaking to the media after the draft, the wide receiver said that he recognises that he will be compared to his father at the Saints.
"My dad was a great football player. I don't think anyone would debate that. To go to the same school and play the same position, I think is a challenge. At the same time, I think that the expectations of that challenge follow you to anywhere you are playing
football."
This was the Saints second pick of the drafts.
The Saints did not have any picks in the first two rounds of the drafts after they had given up their first round pick to the New England Patriots while the NFL banned them from picking in the second round for two seasons as punishment for the Saints bounty
scandal.
Interim head coach, Joe Vitt who has taken over the role from suspended coach, Sean Payton for the upcoming season praised the newest addition to the Saints roster in a press conference.
"He has great pedigree and wide receivers coach Henry Ellard really liked him. He's a polished route runner right now, and he can make the big play.
"We're really excited about the pick."
Toon ended his final year at Wisconsin with 64 receptions for a gain of 926-yards and scored 10 touchdowns.
The Saints ended last season with  a 13-3 record but face great adversity this year as it remains to be seen how the punishments for the bounty scandal will impact the team’s season in 2012-13.
