New Orleans Saints wide receiver Nick Toon placed on injured reserves list – NFL News
New Orleans Saints announced some bad news for their rookie wide receiver Nick Toon on Friday, August 31, 2012 as they prepared the final 53-man roster before the deadline.
Toon has been put on the injured reserves (IR) list by Saints as they cut a total of 22 players from the team.
Toon was deemed a long-time replacement at the starting wide receiving position getting throws from quarterback Drew Brees.
Apart from Toon, three other players have been placed on the IR list. They include safety Jose Gumbs, cornerback Marquis Johnson and running back Joe Banyard.
Toon missed almost all of the offseason due to a foot injury which occurred during the practice session in the offseason training camp on August 02.
Toon played his first National Football League (NFL) game on Thursday in the Saints’ final preseason game against Tennessee Titans. He got a good amount of playing time during the game as Saints rested their starters
Toon was drafted by Saints in the fourth round of this year’s draft. He was never considered to take the starting position this season.
Before being out on the IR list, Toon was looking forward to competing for the no. 4 spot in the wide receiving corps alongside Courtney Roby, Joe Morgan, Andy Tanner and Adrian Arrington.
As Tanner and Arrington are still fighting with their injuries, Toon was widely considered to get place on the roster.
It has been a tough first offseason for Toon and it will not be easier for him in future as well. Toon previously said:
"It's tough. We are all competitors. We all love being out on the field. It's hard to sit there and watch when other people are working and getting better. But it's part of the game. I just have to take advantage of all the mental reps I can get while I'm
not practicing. But it is what it is, and I'll be back soon."
