New Orleans hope to stop losing streak against San Diego Chargers - NFL Preview
New Orleans Saints face the San Diego Chargers in week five as they look to end their four game losing streak this Sunday, October 7, 2012.
If the Saints win, it will do much to lift the doom and gloom surrounding the Mercedes Benz Superdome after what has been one of the worst starts for the franchise.
However, a loss will condemn them to a first 0-5 start in 16 years a milestone that everyone related to the Saints will hope to avoid.
Additionally another much better milestone can also be achieved in this game.
Quarterback, Drew Brees has after last week’s defeat to the Green Bay Packers equalled legend Johnny Unitas record of 47 consecutive games with a touchdown which has held since 1960 and if Brees passes for a touchdown against the Chargers this Sunday he
will break this record that has been unbroken for the past 50 years.
However, the quarterback is not too concerned about the record and is just thinking about victory over San Diego Chargers.
Speaking to the media after the game against Green Bay he said:
"Obviously, I'd like to be talking about it after a win. But certainly it's significant to even be in the same realm as a guy like Johnny Unitas."
Victory though takes precedence and Brees will be wishing to break both the record and the Saints losing run against his former team.
Saints head coach Aaron Kromer too has not let the poor start bring him down and told the media in a recent interview that positive signs can be found in the team’s performance and he believes that New Orleans is on the brink of going on a big winning run.
New Orleans offence seems to be getting back on track after they delivered a big performance against the Packers losing by just a single point in an action packed encounter.
However, defensive frailties have cost the Saints dearly and the Chargers will be looking to take advantage of New Orleans poor defending.
San Diego has started off well in the season and boast a 3-1 record with quarterback Philip Rivers in good knick.
The Chargers boast a strong team but Rivers is not taking any team led by Drew Brees lightly.
Speaking to the media he said:
"It's been many years since I've been around Drew but he's treating today like they're 4-0. And that's how you bounce back from a situation like they're in. In a Drew Brees team with what they've been though, you can't ever count them out of anything. We'll
get their best and we've got to prepare to make sure that we give them our best."
San Diego Chargers have showcased a strong defence this year but the defensive roster will face its sternest test yet when they face Brees.
