New PS3 160GB announced - but I already put a 160GB hard drive in my 40GB model, what's the difference?

I read that the 160GB model will be bundled with a limited edition Uncharted: Drake's Fortune game and some vouchers for PSN Store, would the 160GB model be any different to the current 40GB model? Would it actually be cheaper to buy the 40GB and replace the hard drive yourself?

  1. Sony was less specific on other details, but the presence of just "two USB ports" on the spec sheet would seem to indicate that this is basically a "Core" model with a bigger hard drive--which means NO built-in flash card reader, and NO backward compatibility with PS2 games..

Well, yeah, theres no difference other than the memory and space itself..yep it would be cheaper for you to buy the 40gb and upgrade the memory.goodluck.

  2. the 160GB contains some stuff like videos etc. but theres really not point buying it

  3. Yea it would be cheaper to by the 40GB(or new 80GB) and upgrade the HDD yourself, however it comes with a Pain voucher and Uncharted, so in that aspect its cheaper. But Sony is releasing it, in hopes the Little Big Planet is a system seller. Therefore the new owners will have space to store there Levels and such (which you will be able to sell if people wants to by them from you, cool).

  4. if you can find a 160gb hard drive for less than $100 then it would be cheaper to buy the 40gb and replace the hard drive yourself... but it's going to be the same as the current 40gb... just more memory.

  5. well it is going to have 160gb ps3 on the top of it and i think it will play ps2 games that is about it no major differences so your fine

  6. The 160GB will have a DualShock3 instead of a Sixaxis, as well as being bundled with a game and a voucher to download another game.

  7. the 40GB PS3 is the exact same as the 160GB only with less hard drive space, ur better just to stay with your 40GB or better get a 60GB

  8. Sony have not been to descriptive other than what the Bundle itself entails, Pain, Uncharted, DS3 controller. They did mention no BC with PS2, but there has been no word on the USB, Flash Card readers, etc that I know of anyway. Based on their current direction, I would suggest same as the 40GB, with a 160GB HDD.

  9. well if they phase out the 80gb with BC then the 120gb may have BC... not too sure
