Question:

New Scoring Tactics ?

How would you like it if the scoring went like this:

26 races to make the Top 15, and all other drivers are eliminated for the season.

5 races to make the Top 12, and all other drivers are eliminated for the season.

4 races to make the Top 10, and all other drivers are eliminated for the season.

The final race is the Daytona 500, and the 10 drivers remaining are the only ones who participate. The winner of the Daytona 500 wins the Championship. That would make it more of a Super Bowl of Racing.

Most of you probably wouldn't like it but I think it would sound cool. By the way, it means no Daytona 500 at the beginning of the season.

  1. I had another idea in mind. Keep the chase to ten races and 12 drivers. Keep the bonus points for wins in the first 26 races.

The points leader at the end of the first 26 races would be the regular season champ - maybe a bonus of some sort of money.

In the chase the 12 drivers in the chase are on their own points system, maybe something like Formula 1

    example :

    1st: 10

    2nd: 8

    3rd: 6

    4th: 5

    5th: 4

    6th: 3

    7th: 2

    8th: 1

So they are only racing against drivers in the chase for points. Meaning even if the highest finishing chase driver was for example 5th, that driver would still get 10 points as the highest finishing chase driver.

Whoever amasses the most points in the final ten races is the champ. With this points system one bad race or being in the wrong place wrong time would be easier to recover from.

All other drivers would be on the regular point system. A bonus for 13th still so there is still reason for those 13th and lower to get out there and race hard.

I do like your idea about eliminating drivers but not from the race entirely maybe just from championship contention. The Daytona 500 being at the end of the season would be a cool idea too, but with your idea of only 10 drivers it could be a snoozer.

    OR

Could also do a similar idea to your elimination idea, for the final ten races the lowest in points (In the top 15) after each race is eliminated from championship contention.

Sorry to get carried away with different ideas, but you brought a good discussion topic.

  2. Personally, I like the old "everyone race all season and don't s***w me out of my points lead" way to the championship. Although ending with the Daytona 500 would be cool.

  3. That would be exciting but it would cut out some of NASCAR's income. If they eliminate drivers then they are eliminating fans of those drivers. Sponsors would not like eliminating their air time either.

There is no reason why they can't have the old points system and the chase at the same time. 2 trophies and 2 champs. A season champ and a chase champ.

  4. Well it sounds cool but there are two races at Daytona so you could have one first to kick off the season and then the second one to end it !

  5. Sometimes its better to stick with the old and I think this is one of these times.  It seems unfair that a driver that has been so competitive and built up a lead heading into the chase watches it all disappear.  I liked a lot of things the old way when it comes to NASCAR.  I like Winston, Busch and championships before the chase.
