  1. There are a couple of possibilities, but your stamp is probably quite valuable IF it is in excellent condition. The 8d yellow issue of 1852-3 catalogs for $3,600 mint and $600 used. (These are U.S. dollar values, and stamps usually sell for well below catalog value - still if it's this stamp and is in good shape, you've good a great stamp.) There is also an 8d orange (orange can fade to look like yellow) from 1855 that catalogs for $4,750 mint and $1,000 used - same caveats.

There is also an 8d yellow from 1860-63 that was issued with perforations, but they may have been trimmed off. They catalog at $140/$40 mint/used. There are later yellow perforated stamps as well which catalog for $15 to $100.

The earliest stamp has "New" in the left, "South" on the top, "Wales" on the right, and the value at the bottom. All stamps that are 8d and yellow from NSW have portraits of Queen Victoria.

Any older stamp is worth MUCH less if it is not in good condition, but this one may be rare enough to be worth a few dollars regardless.
