New South Wales Arrows score two consecutive wins in their last two round matches: Women Hockey News
New South Wales (NSW) Arrows finished their initial stages campaign by winning two straight games in the Women’s Australian Hockey League (AHL) competition. They defeated OAMPS Southern Suns by 1-0 in a nerve-racking finish in their second last game while
the last game they won quite comprehensively, beating Western Australia (WA) Diamonds by 4-1.
The match against OAMPS Southern Suns was a very tight game as the OAMPS Suns gave a very tough time to the Arrows. The first half of the game displayed some electrifying efforts from both the teams as they created a lot of goal scoring opportunities, but
remained goal-less till the 32nd minute when NSW Arrows broke the shatters. The luck favoured the Arrows as they were awarded with a penalty stroke just three minutes before the end of first half and Emily Hurtz made no mistake in directing the
ball right into the net.
In the second half NSW Arrows looked more aggressive and attacking, but Deanne Gilbert, OAMPS Suns' goal-keeper made some brilliant blocks to stop NSW Arrows from further goal scoring. The match concluded at 1-0 to NSW Arrows.
In the second match, NSW Arrows looked more convincing in giving WA Diamonds a humiliated defeat by 4-1. WA Diamonds looked more defensive in the first half but useless as the NSW Arrows opened their account in the 11th minute when Kellie White
scored an excellent field goal. In remaining part of the first half, Arrows made some beautiful moves, but remained unsuccessful and it ended at 1-0 to NSW Arrows.
In the WA Diamonds seemed an improved side, not only focusing on defence, but also made some attacking movements. In the 41st minute, WA Diamonds finally succeeded in bringing the score at level with 1-1, when Ashleigh Nelson scored a beautiful
field goal by a diving effort. NSW Arrows replied well and so quickly that in the very next, 42nd, minute it was Emily Hurtz, who put her team, once again, ahead of the Diamonds by scoring an astonishing field goal. WA Diamonds beleaguered NSW Arrows
defence in a great deal, but they failed to permeate their lines. They made many efforts, but Arrows' goal-keeper, Toni Cronk did not allow them to convert these efforts into goals.
On the other hand, NSW Arrows continued their own aggressive rhythm by making full use of each and every opportunity they got. They scored further two goals in quick successions with Hollie Webster in 60th minute while Megan Rivers in 63rd
minute. No more goals were further added by any side and the match closed at 4-1 to NSW Arrows.
