New South Wales Arrows thrash Tasmanian Van Demons, 7-0: Women’s AHL Recap
New South Wales (NSW) Arrows outclassed the Tasmanian Van Demons by 7-0 in a match played between the two teams in the ongoing Women’s Australian Hockey League (AHL) in Darwin. The Arrows have risen on the horizon of the tournament as a major danger for
the top ranked teams like Victoria and Queensland and their recent performance has earned them a lot of prestige.
NSW Arrows were quite dominant in the first half, in fact in the entire match, by scoring three of the seven goals in the first half and remaining four in the second. Just as the match entered in the 3rd minute, NSW Arrows opened their account
when the mid-fielder, Kate Hollywood, put the ball into the net after a rebound from the goal-keeper on a penalty corner. NSW played some marvellous hockey, showing tremendous control over the ball and for most of the time the ball remained in the Tasmanian
half. Seven minutes after the first goal, Emma Cobbin did it again for the Arrows by putting an excellent field goal. Remaining part of the first half too belonged to Arrows, who tripled their lead four minutes before the end of first half. The score remained
at 3-0 to Arrows.
The second half almost repeated the same story, even more damaging for the Tasmanians Van Demons, who had to face four more goals. Kellie White, the star player of Australia’s national hockey team made it 4-0 in the 41st minute just six minutes
after the start of play in the second half. She converted beautifully a penalty corner into a goal. The fifth one was also on a penalty corner, but this time the scorer was different, Jade Close made it vigorously in the 50th minute.
However, Tasmanian too had their chances, but failed to make any impression despite the fact of having some penalty corners. Almost ten minutes before the close of the play, NSW Arrows scored another goal when Emily Hurtz made her contribution with a beauty
in the field in the 57th minute. The seventh and the final goal of the match came into play in the dying moments of the match when Emily Smith brought another beautiful field goal for her team in the 65th minute. The match finished at
7-0 to NSW Arrows.
NSW Arrows will be up against ACT Canberra Strikers in their next match, while Tasmanian Van Demons will face OAMPS Queensland Scorchers, even a stronger team, in their next game.
