New South Wales beat South Australia by 6-3 in U-21 National Hockey Championship
New South Wales (NSW) succeeded to make three in a row, as it defeated Southern Australia by 6-3 in the Day Three game of the U-21 Men’s Australian Hockey Championship, being held at the Perth Hockey Stadium.
Though the NSW entered the field with a winning-track record, the SA displayed splendid attack and put the topper team under pressure with an early goal. The fixture was held in a stiff mode, as both the squads found goal-scoring opportunities. However,
the NSW players availed more chances as compared to their opponent.
The two teams comprised of thrilling youngsters commenced the game in quite an aggressive way. However, it was SA that drew the first blood in the 5thminute of the game. Tom Fitzgerald held the ball under his control and slammed a powerful shot
into the goal from top of the circle. It was the point which triggered the striking line of NSW.
In a matter of five minutes, the NSW succeeded to score a goal and levelled the results. Flynn Ogilvie, the splendid striker from NSW, dribbled a couple of midfielders and took the ball into the defensive circle of SA. He volleyed a gleaming flick into the
corner of opposite goal and had it all even at 1-1. The opening goal further boosted the courage of NSW played who sped up their game at the attacking end. In the 17th minute of the first half, Matt Willis scored a goal and doubled the tally. The
go-ahead goal further increased pressure on South Australians and they committed mistakes. Another player, Joshua Walters, added a goal in the NSW score in the 18th minute and strengthened their grip over the game.  
It was a complete action from both sides in the first half of play, where NSW was leading the score by two goals, 3-1.
South Australia and New South Wales resumed the play in the second half in a cautious way. With three minutes into the second half, Cameron Joyce of SA scored off a short-corner and reduced the NSW lead down to a single goal. However, the opponents were
not happy in this regard and regained the advantage. Tristan White and Jordan Willot scored one goal each in the 43rd and 55th minutes of the game and took an insurmountable lead.
White added a goal for NSW, while Tom Wickham did it for SA, but it could not create much difference on the score-board. New South Wales won the game by three goals, 6-3.
