New South Wales outplays South Australia 6-1 in Australian Hockey League – Hockey Update
Josh Miller and Matthew Butturini scored a couple of goals apiece, as the Men’s hockey team of New South Wales (NSW) powered a convincing 6-1 triumph over South Australia in the ongoing Australian Hockey League (AHL) at the Sydney Olympic Park on August
10.
The South Australian team rendered an outstanding performance in the earlier match and won the first ever game of the 2011 AHL season against Queensland. The NSW line-up, which lost a match in the hands of ACT, will have to win the game in order to prove
their worth in the mega league.
Though both the teams were flying high, it was NSW that desperately needed the points to keep it alive for making a path towards the title-claiming encounter.
Amazingly, the NSW team started establishing their dominance over the field and carried out plenty of attacks against the opposing side. Though, they held the ball in most part of the first half under their possession, they failed to score a goal until the
concluding seconds of the period. After missing plenty of chances, the NSW line-up received a short corner and this time Josh Miller played a classic shot that moved absolutely into the goalposts. With this goal, the first half concluded with Southern team
sitting at bay, 1-0.
The game in the second period unfolded in similar way with New South Wales holding the ball under their possession. With to and fro attacks, the strikers from NSW carried out the ball numerous times in the defensive circle of South Australia.
However, the SA strikers were also not ready to give up and made some counterattacks. In the 53rd minute of the mark, Alastair Oliver of South Australia made an impressive attempt from the field and had it all even at one-all.
It was the point which put New South Wales under intense pressure but the striking players neglected the view and continued their fast-paced game. In the 57th minute of the play, Matthew Butturini converted a short corner and put NSW ahead onto
the scorecard. He was not satisfied and added another goal from the field in the very next minutes, as the lead expanded to two 3-1.
In the later time, Mark Paterson scored off a short corner in the 64th
minute through a brilliant drag flick which boosted the morale of NSW players. In the 67th and 68th minutes, Josh Miller and Duncan Pearce scored a pair of goals of which one obtained on penalty shot while other from the field effort.
The NSW drove the field with an authoritative 6-1 win.
