So I got a new tv and it won't pick up cable channels only air. I tried the set-up scan, I have it on the cable setting, the old tv picked them up just fine and still does when i switch back to it. what gives? I called COX cable and they are WORTHLESS. I'm better off figuring it out myself. Thank you

  1. Actually, it sounds like you did what I did.  You plugged the cable into the wrong antenna in the back of your set (you probably have it in the one marked ant, and thats for the local stations)

    OR

the type of cable input under the set up menu probably should be "std" and not IRC of HRC.

    Good luck.

  2. Today's TVs can have up to three different tuners and this can affect the channels they can receive. The new over-the-air digital channels need a tuner referred to as ATSC. The old analog standard uses a tuner referred to as NTSC. This tuner is needed to receive analog channels over-the-air or over a cable system. Unscrambled digital channels broadcasted over a cable system need a QAM tuner. If your new TV does not have all three tuner types (specifically  NTSC & QAM), then you can have difficulty receiving all the channels over a cable system.  I have seen some of the 2008 TVs showing up without an NTSC tuner. Check your new TV for these tuner types. This could be your problem.
