Question:

New Tattooing VS Old Tattooing?

I see a lot of older Vets that got tattoos back in the old days, and most of them look like black blobs now. I was wondering if due to the modern marvels of technology, tattoos are "longer lasting" now. I have a few, but nothing on the forearms. The one I have is 10 years old, and it still looks pretty good. any thought on how a forearm tat might look 30 years from now?

  1. i do think thanks to modern technology and better products that tattoos are longer lasting than they used to be. eventually they will fade and become distorted as we get old and our body wrinkles and whatnot, but i think the tattoo itself will last longer than old day tats...

  2. generally speaking a tattoo that "blobs" is because the pigment was injected too deeply- a well done tattoo is done by injecting the pigment into the second layer of the skin (the dermis). If the ink winds up in the third layer (the hypodermis) the pigment can disperse over time resulting in fading or that blotchy "blob" look. I'd have to say that it's more likely that there are a lot more knowledgable artists than there used to be rather than any great improvement in technology- the quality is better on the tools, but the basic designs on most haven't changed in about a century.
