I have a five wire system: the following are the colors: white, black, red, green, and yellow. I have a 2.5 ton ac compressor unit outside, and an oil furnance inside. I bought a hunter programmable thermostat 44155c and are having difficulties connecting the wire to the right terminal. I think I figured out where the green yellow wires go, but not sure exactly where the red, black and white wires go. here are my choices left from the process of elimination: Rc, Rh and W/B connector must connect with red, black and white wire. I am grateful for any guidance. Please email tao19@yahoo.com Thank you!!

  1. Don't go by colors!  It goes by terminal designation.  If you are unsure of that you need to call a technician.

  2. Here you go so long as the connections are correct at the furnace and condenser;

    - Black should be the common wire "C" terminal

    - White is the heating wire "W" terminal

    - Green is the wire for the fan control "G" terminal

    - Yellow is the cooling circuit "Y" terminal

    - Red is the 24v power; you have an Rh (heating) and  an Rc (cooling).  Connect the red to either Rc or Rh and wire a jumper between the Rc and the Rh

    Hope that helps  (The color wire is to help keeping things straight in matching indoor, outdoor and thermostat designations of R, G, W, Y & C)
