New Tires on My MR2 Spyder Toyota?

Question

I am looking at getting new tires on my MR2. The ones have are currently from the factory...expensive ranging from $200-$250 a piece. Front and back Tires are 15"/16". 215-45-16/15. Now can I put Falken Ziex ZE-912's

205/40ZR-17 XL 84W Front

215/40ZR-17 XL 87W BB Rear

and still be ok with my rims?

Even with your additional details I don't think you get it.

You have wheels of 15-inch diameter in the front and 16-inch diameter in the rear.

The tires you want to order REQUIRE a wheel 17-inches in diameter so no, your 15 and 16-inch wheels absolutely under no conditions in the known universe will work.  

To answer your original question no your stock wheels absolutely will not work.  It would be functionally the same as fitting a round peg in a square hole.

You have by the way picked perhaps the worst vehicle in the American market today in terms of buying replacement tires.

The "17" in the tire size refers to the diameter of your wheel. You can't put 17" tires on 16" wheels. You might be able to go so a size like 205/50/16, but it's still not a good idea. Try www.tirerack.com. They have tires in the correct size, starting around $100 a piece.

It sounds like you want to put new 17 inch tires on old 15 and 16 inch rims. That won't work.!?!?

Anyways, the new 205 and 215's should fit the same width of rims, the 205's might be better off on a narrower rim, I don't remember the width recommendations.

If you have anything close by, go to a store and check out what you want (or close) and get information from them about tire size/rim size.

I'm guessing even with 40 series instead of 45 series, the bigger rims will mean a taller tire. But that may be more of a 'speedo' problem than anything else.
