New Trier take down Glenbrook North 2-0 Niles North Sectional Championship -

New Trier boys volleyball team was able to hand out a defeat to Glenbrook North by a clean sweep on Tuesday at the final of the Niles North Sectional Championship.
Despite the fact that Glenbrook had already secured a win over the Trevians previously, they were unable to reflect the same spirit that they had shown earlier. Mainly due to hitting errors made by GBN, the first set of the match was easily bagged by New
Trier. It was only in the second set that the Spartans were able to come into their stride but by then it was too late to slow down the pace of the Trevians who won the match 25-19 and 25-22.
Chris Cooper, the head coach of GBN, appreciated New Trier efforts and commented on his team performance and said, "New Trier played a really clean match; they didn't make too many errors and they didn't give us any openings. We struggled in serve-receive,
which is typically not something that we do, and when you struggle in serve-receive, it makes you very predictable… Still, I'm proud of these guys. They didn't lay down and lose this match--they got beat."
The start of the opening set of the match saw New Trier take the lead for themselves at 9-2. Despite being at a deficit, the Spartans restricted New Trier from scoring and were able to even the first set at 14-14. However, New Trier rallied together and
put on a spurt of speed that took them on a 7-0 run. Once they were this far ahead, New Trier did not look back and kept the Spartans trailing until the Trevians had bagged the first set of the game at 25-19.
Despite losing the initial set of the game, GBN did not give up and started off the second set by taking a lead. At one point, the Spartans found themselves to be six points up from New Trier. This was the crucial moment at which the Spartans needed to turn
the tables. However, the Spartans were helpless when New Trier went on another destabilizing 7-0 run that shifted the momentum back into the hands of the Trevians. After they had the lead, it was only a matter of time before New Trier was able to seal the
deal on the second and final set of the game at 25-22.
New Trier has secured itself the sectional championship by winning 33 overall matches in this season so far. These have been attained while suffering six losses in all. In contrast to this, GBN has had a total of 30 wins and nine defeats.
