New Valencia striker believes club can challenge for La Liga title

Striker Roberto Soldado has spoken of his belief that his new club Valencia can compete with any team.
Despite losing key players David Silva to Manchester City and David Villa to Barcelona over the summer, Soldado said Valencia have enough strength in depth to challenge La Liga giants Barca and Real Madrid for the league championship.
In a press conference today, former Real Madrid player Soldado said that: “We are confident that we can fight with any team, and we have the potential to fight with Real Madrid and Barcelona. After the first game, people are excited about the team. We played very well against Malaga and that is the line to follow. During the Racing match we must push from the start and open the scoring as early as possible.”
Set to make debut
The 25-year-old striker — who joined Valencia from Getafe for a fee of 10m euros over the summer — missed out on his team’s first match of the campaign against Malaga due to injury, which they won 3-1. However, he has made his return to training and has a chance of making his competitive debut for his new side against Racing Santander on Saturday.
He said that: “I have really wanted to play an official match and prove myself, but I will respect the decision that is best for the team. I have wanted to return to play a game, and I do not care in what competition I play.”
Soldado will also get the chance to take on some of the biggest teams in Europe as Valencia are involved in this season’s UEFA Champions League tournament. The Spanish outfit have been drawn against English Premier League giants Manchester United giants Manchester United, Scottish Premier League champions Rangers and Turkish side Bursaspor in the group stage of the competition.
