I would like to stick to lacto -ovo-vegitarian meals six days a week to save money on our grocery bill and to eat healthier. We will still eat eggs, cheese, and drink milk. Our family consists of two adults and three children. My husband is hesitant because he really enjoys meat. I told him that I would make him one big beautiful meaty meal every Sunday if he just tried my idea. I want to give him an idea of how much we can save and see if that piques his interests. Who has switched to a vegetarian life style and knows how much money they have saved?

  1. it depens youll spend the same amount if you dont plan the trip to the store and dont use coupons and the FLea market :P

produce can be very expensive and you neeed allott

you can save allota money if you plan

  2. Brown rice, beans and whole wheat pasta cost much less then meat.   Add eggs and frozen veggies to your shopping list and you have a week of meals.

You dont need to buy processed soy foods to be healthy..that's also where the prices go up.

Try stir fry veggies over rice, pasta with sauce, beans and rice and so much more.  Fresh produce is expensive for everyone...store brand frozen veggies are just as good and cheap.

  3. I switched on March 19.   I have lost 35 pounds since then and I eat like a pig.   I am afraid at the beginning it costs a bit more because the staples you need are not in the house.   Things like whole grains and raw nuts and so much more.   But after a while it is so cheap.   Produce and whole grain bread.  What does it cost?   Nothing compared to lunch meat and cheese.   I have never done the math but I am really happy with my switch.

  4. It really depends on where you live.  In some places it would be more expensive for most or part of the year.

  5. By being a vegetarian, you are slowly killing yourself. Meat has many nutrients in it that are vital to your body's healthiness, I know that for a fact. The food pyramid includes meats for a reason.

Why do you want to become one? To lose weight? To save money? If so, just cut down on your servings and types of meat you have.

But if it's something like "oh, I just want to save all of those innocent little farm animals!" then that's not going to matter because GUESS WHAT!? Millions more are STILL going to be killed every day anyway to feed the millions of meat lovers! SHOCKING ISN'T IT?

Sure it saves money but meat is food and food is food. Wouldn't it be better to just eat meat than to have troubles with your body because it's lacking nutrients later on?

It is sick to see you encouraging your children to not eat meat. It's appalling that you do this just to "save money". You might as well just starve them if you're not going to provide the nutrients they need to grow strong

  6. it depends. if youre vegetarian just to save money, it probably wont last. you have to believe in the cause. also, soy products and other artificial meat can get pricy, and if you dont buy that stuff you need to be very health conscious that you have enough protein every day. i do appreciate vegetarians though
