I just purchased a new Vista 64 bit HP desktop. The computer sees the wireless network, I click to connect, and I type in the password, which is "password" but ti keeps telling me teh password is incorrrect!

I have logged in to 192.168.1.1 with the username: "admin" and password: "password."

When I a random test password it says the true password is 8 characters.

Has anyone had this happen to them before?

Any suggestions?

Oh, and I can't reset the router, we have a home office here that is networked and setup for several computers by professionals I don't want to pay again.

Thanks!

  1. Logging into 192.168.1.1 with admin and password is not necessarily the wireless password.  This is simply the user id and password to log into the wireless network router in order to manage it.  So, once you are logged in here, look for a wireless setting or tab, and look for wireless security, typically it will show you there what the wireless password is, if not, you can then set the password you want there, i would recommend not using the password of password
