New Williams chief engineer Mike Coughlan hopes to earn back everyone’s respect – Formula 1 news
The new chief engineer of Williams Mike Coughlan recently stated that he is hoping to earn back everyone’s respect since he has returned to Formula 1 after more than 3 years.
Mike was banned from the sport as a result of the ‘spygate’ scandal which affected some major names of the sport including Flavio Briatore, former Renault Racing Team president as well back in 2007.
However, he believes that he should now look forward to his future with Williams as they have a lot of potential. He is hoping for the best with the team.
“The team has a fantastic site at Grove and some brilliant people working there. Seeing the potential of the team and the facilities for myself, as well as witnessing how motivated everyone is and how hard they all work, is really encouraging and I'm looking
forward to working with them all,” he said.
After being banned for two years and discharged from McLaren, it was announced earlier this year that Coughlan is going to be a part of Williams by the British Grand Prix. He is now going to rejoin the sport and bring about a change to the team’s performance
in a positive way.
“It was life-changing because it made me reflect upon myself and my actions. Leaving a team and a sport that I love, and then seeing the consequences of my actions on the team and its fans was devastating. All I can do now is work hard and try to earn my
place back in Formula One. This is what I am determined to do with Williams,” Coughlan said.
He apologised to all those people who were affected by his act during the spygate scandal in particular the people of McLaren and Ferrari and also the fans of the sport. Coughlan was not happy about what he did and added that he sincerely regrets his actions
and that he deserved the penalty given to him.
Other than that, he claims that the team is full of dedicated workers who are hoping to improve the team’s performance vitally and score results far beyond the expectations of the fans as the team is hoping to challenge the top running teams for race wins
after stabilising.
