Ok this may get confusing but just bare with me. Ok so we all know that the year numbering system AD started on the day that Jesus was born right so it makes sense that it has been 2008 years since his birth. BUT why it is that we celebrate new year on the 1st of Jan and not on the day that the system was started on which was on Christmas so doesn't that technically mean that New Year should be on Christmas If anyone knows why this is or is as confused about it as me please answer. By the way I have no idea how I even thought of this :)

  1. I don't think the year's beginning has anything to do with Jesus's birth.

  2. looking too much into it

  3. I learned in high school the Jesus wasn't actually born on Dec. 25th

  4. i know what you mean but i'd have to disagree

there were people before jesus was born so there was a numbering system already and December 25th was the day that he was born and January 1st is the day that the year starts all over

  5. Jesus was not born on Christmas, he was born in the spring sometime around Easter.  The calendar has changed many times for a lot of reasons.  Besides, have the New Year start on a different day than Christmas gives us another holiday.

  6. I think it's because January is the first month of the whole year

  7. Christmas, December the twenty-fifth, is merely a Christian holiday. Jesus Christ was actually born some time in April I think (if the Discovery Channel is to be deemed accurate). As for why we do not begin our years on Christmas, I don't know! We do follow the ROMAN calendar, after all. I'd like to see other answers to this question.... :)

  8. we don't know the exact birth year of Jesus!

  9. You make a lot of sense but we don't know when Jesus was born. In fact Jesus was around three when the wise men came. If you listen to Huey Freeman on the boondocks(Christmas episode) he'll tell you.
