New York Central Railroad Company?

I found a $100 a share for 100 shares of this stock in my fathers old trunk... Question? Does it have any value today... Dated 1941...

  1. Probably not, but any stock broker can quickly tell you for sure.  

    The New York Central Railroad merged with the Pennsylvania Railroad, and the resulting company  (Penn Central) went bankrupt.  Today, Conrail runs what's left of their trackage, but the companies themselves are long gone.  Still, it doesn't hurt to ask, so take your certificates into a stock brokerage firm and ask for help.

    Even if it is worthless as stock, the papers themselves may have some value.  There are people who collect old stock certificates, plus there are a ton of people who collect anything to do with railroads.  The stock certificates may have some value to them.  Here is one example of what I am talking about, but there are lots of similar collectors out there.  I just got this one by Googling "railroad collectibles stock":

    A lot of this stuff is also sold on eBay.
