I work in a rough area in Queens NY, and as it is a 24 hour store I frequently have to pull the graveyard shift, which is 12 AM to 8 AM. Several of the stores around me have suffered armed hold-ups, some as recent as a month ago. I do not like being unable to protect myself should someone decide to try to rob my store. I looked up the Gun Laws for NYC on-line and found a lot of info. The website posted below is where I was, and it shows you can buy weapons and the different permits needed to carry and possess them. I would want the second license, the "on premises" license. It permits the holder to possess a handgun in his home and/or place of business. So I had gotten the information I needed, except there was no age requirement listed. I'm only 18, so I wasn't sure if I could get the permits and licenses needed. So I called 311 and was transferred to the Gun Law hot-line at the NYPD, and there I was told by a Sergeant that there is no age requirement, because in the entire city of New York, it is ilegal to purchase a handgun. You cannot go out and buy a pistol in New York City. When I mentioned the "on premises" license, he said he has never heard of this ever. I seriously doubt that it is ilegal to purchase a gun in NY, I think he either was just trying to make there be one less gun on the street, or he was busy and didn't feel like dealing with me. Please, anyone who knows the real facts or who knows for sure that this dude wasn't messing with me, comment this question. Thanks.
