New York City.......is this true?

I really need to know but am unable to find any information on this: Is it true that in NYC you are required to have health insurance or you can be put in jail? My boyfriend is not going to be a student as of next month and will lose his health insurance. If he is caught (e.x. needs to go to the hospital for a broken bone) without it could he really go to jail? Thanks

I don't think it is like that.  Here in MA you have to have health ins.  You cannot even file taxes unless you have ins.  I think it is mandatory, but you won't go to jail.
