New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers’ coaches praise one another ahead of championship game–NFL News
New York Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin, and San Francisco 49ers’ coach, Jim Harbaugh, on Monday, January 16, 2012, complimented each others' teams and acknowledged that the Giants-49ers National Football Conference (NFC) championship game will be an exciting
one.
After ending the National Football League (NFL) regular season by winning nine games and losing eight, the Giants have done remarkably well in the postseason.
They defeated Atlanta Falcons (24-2) and the defending Super Bowl champions, Green Bay Packers (37-20), in what seems to be an impressive performance from the side that got back to winning ways quite late in the season.
Giants also played the 49ers in the regular season and were beaten (27-20), but this time around, things are much more different.
New York is on a four-game winning streak, while their defence and rushing game has also improved.
While comparing the Giants' side the 49ers defeated with their present team, which is in exploding form, 49ers' coach, Jim Harbaugh agreed that the Giants have worked hard to overcome their weaknesses.
“The defensive line was strong when we played them and now they’re stronger. One of the best in the National Football League. The offence remains very potent. Eli Manning has played at a high level the entire season. The running game has been bolstered since
we played the Giants. The receiver group has really asserted itself even since we played them”.
On the other hand, the 49ers, unlike the Giants, had an outstanding run in the regular season. They won 13 games to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2002.
Not only that, they were the second seeded team in the postseason and earned a first-week bye.
The 49ers beat the competent New Orleans Saints (36-32) in their playoff game, and Giants' coach, Tom Coughlin could not help but praise the 49ers’ performance.
“They have played extremely well all year long, they have rushed the ball, they have played outstanding defence, their quarterback came up with huge plays in the game the other day to help his team win”.
It is exciting to see the two competent sides recognising each other’s talent as they prepare for the championship finale.
The winner of the game will become the National Football Conference (NFC) champion and qualify for the Super Bowl to play either Baltimore Ravens, or New England Patriots, in Indianapolis.
