New York Giants Aaron Ross and D.J. Ware expected to miss rest of the season – NFL Update
New York Giants' cornerback, Aaron Ross, who left the field during the playoff game against Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, January 8, 2012, after incurring a head injury in the third quarter, might miss the rest of the season. The same is the case with backup
running back, D.J. Ware, who is suffering from a concussion.
In an attempt to cover the ball after Falcons' quarterback, Matt Ryan’s pass was deflected, Ross collided with his teammate Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP). Defensive end, Justin Tuck, was also involved in the hit, but stayed safe.
However, Ross and JPP took the hit rather seriously as they remained on the ground for a while and left the field afterwards, disappointing thousands of fans.
JPP returned later, but Ross never came back and was replaced by rookie, Prince Amukamara.
“Anytime you have players on the ground, your first thought is, I hope it is not serious,” Giants' coach, Tom Coughlin, said.
“Fortunately, JPP was able to get up and go and I just saw Aaron Ross and he just counted fingers for me so I hope he will be alright.”
Everybody hopes the same as Coughlin, but according to different reports, Ross might take a little longer time to recover, jeopardising his chances to play the crucial game against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Green Bay Packers, on Sunday, January
15.
Ross has been playing for the Giants since the year 2007. In the game against the Falcons, he recorded five tackles before incurring the injury.
Amukamara, who replaced Ross, recorded two tackles saying after the game that he felt a lot of confidence playing with experienced players.
“Webby [Corey Webster] and Antrel [Rolle] and Deon [Grant] and Ross told me just play like the ball’s coming at you, even if it’s a run,” Amukamara said.
“Just always be alert, still be on my Ps and Qs and stick with guys downfield.”
It is reported that if Ross stays injured, Giants might start the next game with Amukamara.
Meanwhile, another blow came for the Giants, who announced after the game that running back, D.J Ware, is suffering a concussion, and he too might miss the rest of the season. It was not determined when the player received the hit during the game.
Ware played all the 16 games in the regular season while starting one. He had 46 carries for 163 yards with an average of 3.5 yards per carry.
In the game against Falcons, he rushed for four yards on one carry.
With two players, who are well aware of the teams’ game-play, sidelined due to injuries, Giants need to come up with such replacements that can fill in the gap properly.
Giants will be going up against Packers, who are one of the best teams in the league, especially when it comes to the playoffs, making their next contest a must watch one.
