New York Giants Aaron Ross and D.J. Ware undergo medical examination – NFL News
New York Giants impressively defeated Atlanta Falcons in the wildcard playoff game, but they received a shock in the form of injuries of two players; cornerback, Aaron Ross and running back, D.J. Ware, both of who underwent medical examination on Monday,
January 9, 2012.
As per the league’s conduct, all the players, who are doubted to have received concussion, must undergo complete medical examination before receiving a green signal to step on the field.
In the third quarter of the game, Ross tried to grab a free ball after a pass was deflected. In doing so, he collided with his fellow teammate, Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP), and hurt his head.
Initially, both the players were down and were forced to leave the field. JPP did manage to return, but the hit forced Ross out of the game and may be the season!
On the other hand, Ware’s case was different. He left the field due to concussion symptoms. It was not determined how he received the injury, but Giants’ vice president of medical services, Ronnie Barnes, informed that the video replay helped the team to
ascertain the nature of the hit and the injury.
It will be a serious blow for the Giants if these two players miss the next week game against the defending Super Bowl Champions, Green Bay Packers.
Ross recorded 60 tackles while playing all the games in the regular season. During the game against the Falcons, he managed five tackles before leaving the field.
Ware, who is not a starter for the Giants, also played all the 16 games in the regular season where he recorded 46 carries for 163 yards with an average of 3.5 yards per carry.
On Sunday, he only had one carry for four yards.
Giants coach, Tom Coughlin, hoped that both the players would recover before the weekend.
"Both are going through the process with regards to the concussion," he said. "They actually felt pretty good at the conclusion of the game when we did see them in the locker room. I hope that [makes a difference] going through the protocol for clearance
to practice and play this week."
Meanwhile, Coughlin has also appreciated the performance of rookie cornerback, Prince Amukamara, who replaced Ross during the game against the Falcons.
The coach said that the rookie did a nice job while he was on special teams. While acknowledging the fact that, Amukamara received more playing time in the absence of Ross, Coughlin also hinted that the rookie could start the game against the Packers.
"He is gaining more experience each week and that is what he needs. I thought he displayed very good open-field transition yesterday, turning his hips and getting himself in position. He is physical; he will hit you," Coughlin said.
It is still unsure who will start the game for the Giants against the Packers, but the coach is keeping his fingers crossed, hoping that the injuries will not hinder their performance.
