New York Giants’ Aaron Ross limited in practice, hopeful to return against Green Bay Packers–NFL News
New York Giants’ cornerback, Aaron Ross, who was feared to have suffered a concussion and miss rest of the season, showed up in the practice session on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, and said that he would play the National Football League (NFL) playoff game
against Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
However, he did not participate in a complete workout and practised on a limited basis.
When asked about his status, Giants' coach, Tom Coughlin, commented that the player underwent medical examination and was declared fit.
Coughlin, however, refrained from telling whether Ross had suffered a concussion.
“He has passed all the protocol. That is all I can tell you,” Coughlin said about Ross.
During the wildcard game of the postseason last week against Atlanta Falcons, Ross suffered a head injury and was forced out of the game in the third quarter.
In an attempt to cover a free ball, three of the Giants’ players collided with each other, Ross, Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck.
Tuck stayed safe and Pierre-Paul suffered a minor blow, but Ross had to leave the field for the rest of the game.
After practising on Wednesday, Ross said that he was sidelined during the game as precautionary measures, which were taken to ensure that the injury did not aggravate.
He also added that he is feeling much better and wants to participate in the game against Packers.
“I felt good after the game,” Ross said. “Once I got off the ground, I felt a lot better. Of course, the league has to take precautions and doctors made the right decision by keeping me out. I took the test, I felt fine, I passed it. I feel good.”
Ross started 15 games for the Giants while playing 16 in the regular season and recording 60 tackles. Against Falcons, he made five tackles before receiving the hit.
He was replaced by rookie, Prince Amukamara, who is also expected to play against Packers, if Ross sits out for the contest.
While appreciating Amukamara’s performance, Ross stated that he witnessed improvement in the rookie’s game-play and that Amukamara is getting better each week.
“He’s coming along,” Ross said. “He’s getting better each week, each practice. He’s starting to learn the defence, picking up on the scheme. He’s getting better each week.”
It is certainly a good development for the Giants to see Ross active once again. However, they are still not sure whether he will play on Sunday.
The final decision will be taken considering his performance in the upcoming practice sessions.
