New York Giants’ CB Prince Amukamara backs New England Patriots’ Alfonzo Dennard – NFL News
New York Giants’ cornerback, Prince Amukamara, has said that cornerback, Alfonzo Dennard, who has recently been selected by New York Giants in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, will prove his doubters wrong by proving his selection right.
Amukamara and Dennard played college football together for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. Amukamara was drafted by Giants last year while Dennard had to wait one more year before getting an opportunity to join the professional league.
Dennard was expected to be one of the top draft picks especially in the race of cornerbacks, but a series of unfortunate events hampered his progress badly and he ended up being a final-round pick.
Initially, Dennard was seen sliding down on his form during the past few months. As if it was not enough, he was recently alleged of punching a police officer outside a local bar in Lincoln.
He still faces charges of third-degree felony assaults for that actions and it could be one of the reasons that he was not selected in earlier rounds of the draft.
The Pats drafted Dennard in the seventh round as 224th overall pick and Prince believes that the player has a potential to prove his selection right.
According to the AP, Prince admired Dennard’s character and said of him:
"Alfonzo is a very cheerful guy, and he likes to make the best out of situations. He has the hungry mentality that he's going to go in and work hard and just put everything in the Patriots' hands."
Prince also said that he sent a text message to Dennard and told him not to worry about anything.
He said:
"I just told him I know this isn't where you want to get picked, but you know what you can do and we know what you can do, so just prove (doubters) wrong.”
Dennard is still facing the charges, but Prince is determined that the former is innocent. Prince told that he was not aware of the charges on the player until he saw the related news on the internet.
"I didn't think it was a true story," the Giants’ cornerback said.
Amukamara himself is recovering from a foot injury.
