New York Giants DE Chris Canty thinks quarterback Eli Manning is better than Tony Romo – NFL News
It was expected that when New York Giants defensive end Chris Canty talked on ESPN Radio New York, he would be asked who the best quarterback is: Eli Manning or Tony Romo.
Canty had no fear in responding to this question because he had a clear-cut answer.
As far as rating these two players is concerned, Canty has the hands-on experience to do so as he has played with both the players.
With all due respect to veteran Romo, he insists that Manning has the tenacity to lift the team spirits in desperate situations.
He appreciates the fact that Manning raises his game level himself and of his fellow players. Canty said:
“Tony Romo is a terrific quarterback, you can’t take that away from him. Statistically he is a top-five quarterback even though a lot of people might not realize it.”
He carried on with the appreciation of Manning’s leadership and said:
“Eli’s ability to elevate his game and the play of all the guys around him in the most crucial situation of a football game I believe is the difference and that is what makes him a championship quarterback.”
Canty started his career with the Dallas Cowboys and played four seasons with Romo. After that he moved to New York Giants and has played three seasons with Manning.
Romo has played nine seasons for the Cowboys and has not won any Super Bowl yet.
In the 2011 season, he covered 4,184 rushing yards and completed 31 touchdowns and also threw 10 interceptions. He got a quarterback rating of 102.5 for the season, but he was still unable to lead the team
to the playoffs.
On the other hand, Manning has played eight seasons for Giants and has two Super Bowl titles to his name as well as two Most Valuable Player (MVP) titles.
He was the backbone of the team last season playing all the games. He covered 4,933 yards and got 29 touchdowns while throwing 16 interceptions. He got a quarterback rating of 92.9.
Canty was also very vocal about Manning getting a mere 31st place in NFL Network’s top 100 players list. He said:
"I just don't understand that. For goodness sake, just look at the resume, look at what he's been able to do. He's an elite football player, and I think it's time people recognized that."
After winning the championship last season, Manning does not have to prove himself as the best.
Yet Romo has to still prove his mettle, otherwise he will always be blamed for Cowboys championship drought.
