New York Giants’ DE Justin Tuck comes forward to support Osi Umenyiora’s demand of hefty payout
New York Giants’ defensive end, Justin Tuck, has supported his teammate, Osi Umenyiora’s demand of receiving a long-term job security and a hefty payout, saying that the latter deserves to get paid.
Osi’s contract situation seems to have reached a deadlock as there is no evident progress reported on the matter.
Although both Osi and Giants have repeatedly said that they want to work things out, an amicable solution is yet to be reached and no one knows what will be the conclusion of this story.
This has also discouraged Osi, who has now decided against commenting on his contract situation as he waits to hear from the defending Super Bowl champions.
Meanwhile, Giants have also said that they want to keep the player with the team for a long period of time, but they are yet to agree on financial terms of the new deal with the player, who has also demanded more playing time in the upcoming season.
Osi has been playing for the Giants since starting his professional National Football League (NFL) career in 2003 and was part of Giants’ last two Super Bowl victories.
In his eight-year career, Osi has been selected for the Pro Bowl squad twice. He is also a two-time All Pro.
Tuck believes that Osi is a very talented player whose presence in the squad is vital for the team’s success in the upcoming season.
In an interview with Jim Rome of ROME, Tuck said of Osi:
“He’s very important. He is a great defensive end, and has had a very successful career with the Giants . . . We know each other very well, know how to play off each other, had a lot of success together. So obviously, I’m rooting for him to end his career
as a Giant.”
Tuck also realises that some difficult decisions have to be made in this business. While hoping that things work out between the player and the team management, Tuck further said:
“But you also understand the business aspect of things. And at the end of the day, I just hope everything works out for him and his family and the Giants.”
Osi was reportedly offered a contract extension earlier as well, but the player denied the offer because the salary was not up to his expectations.
It is yet to be known how much amount the Giants are willing to offer him, but if they fail to retain the player it will not be a good omen for the team.
