New York Giants DE Justin Tuck highlights flaws of his last season workout – NFL News
Although, the New York Giants won the Super Bowl last season, defensive end Justin Tuck thinks that, he did not give his best shot in the season.
Highlighting flaws of his workout before the start of the 2011 season, Tuck said that he missed many things that he had done in the past.
Owing to the National Football League (NFL) lockout last year, the players were unable to get proper training with their coaches and other teammates and, instead of working out privately throughout the offseason, Tuck took a trip to Africa.
In an interview for ESPN's "E:60”, Tuck said:
"I definitely didn't work as hard as I should've last year. The lockout was going on. I took a trip to Africa. There were some things I did in the past that I didn't do last summer."
Tuck has been playing for the Giants since starting his professional career in 2005. He is a two-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion.
But his performance last year, especially in the regular season, was not very commendable. He registered only five sacks, which is the lowest since he became the starter in 2008.
He also missed four games of the regular season, and continuously suffered from a number of injuries. He said of the situation:
"I wanted to be out there. But I'd go two or three games and just get a half sack. I started to wonder why I was playing when there were other people who could do a better job. There's a difference between playing hurt and playing injured."
Tuck was fortunate enough to win the Super Bowl title last season despite not being hundred percent. This time around, he has enjoyed complete offseason workout and the defensive end is going to enter the training camp fully fit and healthy.
He must utilise the advantage now, and while leading the young players, the defensive end must also focus on improving his record as the Giants are going to have a tough season as they attempt to defend their Super Bowl title. It will be a marvellous achievement if they successfully defend the title.
