New York Giants DE Justin Tuck responds to Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews’ comments – NFL News
The Green Bay Packers were among the favourites to win the Super Bowl last season and especially after finishing the regular season 15-1, they were hot favourites to accelerate. However, they lost in the playoffs against the New York Giants, who had been
beaten by the Packers in the regular season.
Giants went on to win the Super Bowl after defying all the odds and they received the due credit for improving their defence and beating teams like Packers, San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots in the postseason.
However, Packers linebacker Clay Matthews has been saying that it was not the Giants’ good performance that won them the playoff game. Instead, Matthews thinks, the Packers did not perform well and eventually lost the game.
These remarks do not sound pleasing for the Giants who did work hard to win the title. As expected, a Giants player has responded to Matthews’ comments.
Giants defensive end Justin Tuck has asserted that Giants won the game because they played better than the Packers. According to Tom Rock of Newsday, Tuck said of the game:
"We won the football game, I don't think they gave us anything. When they fumbled the ball, I think it was us that stripped it out. We sacked them. I think it was us who beat their O-linemen and got to (Aaron) Rodgers. So I don't think they just ole'd everything
and gave us the game. I think they were trying to win."
Tuck is also not pleased with those who think that Giants won the title just because they were lucky. The defenseman said:
"I don't find it comical. I find it somewhat depressing. We lost games last year where luckily for us we got the opportunity to play the next week . . . It's football, it's a funny game.”
Packers’ frustration is justified as they were the defending Super Bowl champions last year and they did well throughout the season to reclaim the honour, but one has to agree that Giants were better than them on the day the Packers were eliminated.
Both teams are going to face each other in the 2012 season as Giants will host Packers for Week 12 game.
