New York Giants Da’Rel Scott optimistic about his future with the team – NFL News
New York Giants’ running back, Da’Rel Scott, who made his debut in the last National Football League (NFL) season did not get enough field time in his rookie season, but the player is optimistic about his future with the team and thinks that he will get
a major role in the team’s offence in the next season.
The 23-year-old Scott was selected by the Giants in 2011 NFL draft as 221st overall pick.
Before turning pro, Scott was starting the running back for Maryland Terrapins at the University of Maryland.
Scott joined Giants as a backup to Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw.
Since there was no offseason voluntary workout programme last year due to the NFL lockout, Scott got an opportunity to prove his talent in the team’s training camp before the preseason.
He performed relatively well in the preseason games, but in the presence of Jacobs and Bradshaw, he could not get enough playing time during the regular season.
He participated in 11 games of the regular season, but he only rushed for a total of 16 yards on five carries. He stayed inactive throughout the postseason.
Things have changed for Giants now and after the last season, some players have left the squad and a few have joined.
Those who have left the team also include Jacobs, who is now a part of San Francisco 49ers.
With Jacobs gone now, Scott thinks that he could get more playing time and a major role in the team’s offence in the next season.
He said:
“I definitely can see myself fitting in a major role in this offense, being that we have Ahmad [Bradshaw], we have Danny [Ware], we have Andre [Brown. It’s going to be us four and hopefully I’m going to get in a rotation. But I feel like I can definitely
make a major impact getting in the rotation.”
Scott also said that he would like to master other techniques and utilise his talent for the team whenever required. He said:
“Hopefully I can get back to kick returning and all aspects of special teams. So whatever I can do to get on the field, that’s the main thing.”
